Well Read Wednesday is back!

Well it’s been a while! So much ‘life’ has happened but here I am with a new and hopefully regular blog about what I am reading and in even better news, what I am writing too. I am not going to dwell on all the water which has flown under this bridge so this space will be for sharing great books and for teasing you about my writing - I have been teasing myself for way too long!

For new followers I should say that my tastes in reading are wide and varied. I read literary works both old and new, but I also indulge in some popular and ‘genre’ fiction. I am easily hooked by great story-telling, well developed characters and artfully described settings. Along with all the fiction there are usually non-fiction books on the go and these too cover a wide range of topics such as science, history, nature, astronomy, writing and gardening.

Nerd that I am, I keep a record of all the books I read so for example, this year to date I’ve read a total of 49 works of fiction and 10 non-fiction books. Within that fiction list is my special reading project for this year namely the complete works of Agatha Christie, in chronological order. I have come to the world of crime fiction somewhat late in life and I am the first to admit that I’d probably dismissed AC’s work as unworthy in some way. I then read historian Lucy Worsley’s biography of this much maligned writer and my interest was piqued. With Guinness World Records listing Christie as the best-selling fiction writer of all time I set out to find out why. Of her 100+ works I have so far read the first 31 books, but I will return to those in a future blog post.

There have been so many good reads, both old and new this year and the next few posts will take the form of catch-ups so I can share them with you all
